The CRAI stands for the French policy in international agricultural research

The International Agricultural Research Commission (CRAI) is a consultative organ between the French research organisations (CIRAD, INRA, IRD, Cemagref, CNRS) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

The CRAI, created in 1978, is the interface between the French research organisations and the international agricultural research system, of which the CGIAR is a component. The CRAI debates on this account about the distribution of the financial contribution of France to the Centers.

The commission is also in charge of following up the recommendations of the CNER (Comité national d’Evaluation de la Recherche) report and has undertaken within this framework a strengthening work that led to: the appointment of a president, the entering of CNRS and GIP IFRAI (CIRAD and INRA) within the CRAI, the negotiation and the signature by the research organisations of a 'common agenda France-CGIAR' in the areas of Training, Research and Prospective, and the continuation of the active involvement in the European authorities that work on multilateral international agricultural research.

From early 2008, CRAI is actively taking a growing part in the Change Management Process initiated by the CGIAR through the involvement of its executive secretary in one of the working groups.
CRAI is also involved in the preparation of the Global Conférence on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD), from March 28 to 31 at Montpellier, organized by the Global Forum on Agriculturel Research (GFAR) with the support of Agropolis International
