Agropolis International joins the Consortium of Scientific Partners of the Convention on Biological Diversity
The Consortium of Scientific Partners of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CSP-CBD) has been instituted on March 27, 2006 by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Convention on Biological Diversity and six major scientific institutions in the field of biodiversity:
- the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew,
- the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington
- the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris
- the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences , Brussels
- the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh
- the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. Bonn
It gathers today 14 members in 10 countries.
The purpose of this consortium is to leverage the expertise and experience of these institutions in order to implement education and training activities to support developing countries that are building scientific, technical and policy skills in the area of biodiversity.
Since 2006, the consortium has mainly organized training sessions, essentially focusing on the politics and implementation measures for the conservation of biodiversity with several tools, at the margins of the CDB Conference of Parties (COP 9, Bonn, 2008 ; COP 10, Nagoya, 2010) or the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA)
In the context of the new CDB strategic plan, new actions should be implemented, especially to foster North-South and South-South cooperations in the field of biodiversity.
Agropolis International could play an important role in this field.
