Registration open for the Mooc (course on line) "Vine&Wine": introduction to vine and wine science

This MOOC will initiate you to the scientific and technological bases which define the framework in which wine professionals work, from the vine to the glass. This international online course presents 4 key modules on wine-making and sales: vine biology, viticultural practices, oenology and wine economy. This course is aimed to science students with a B.Sc. in order to discover the basis of vine and wine sciences and to professionals who wish to extend their field of knowledge. Created by several French organizations: Montpellier SupAgro (member of Agropolis International), AgroSupDijon, Bordeaux Sciences Agro, ENSAT and INRA.
This project is supported by Agropolis Fondation and IAVFF.

Call for abstracts open until January 15th 2018 for the 2nd Joint Congress on Evolutionary Biology, 18-22 August 2018, Montpellier (Le Corum)

This Joint Congress takes place every six years and brings together four of the world's largest academic societies in the field of evolutionary biology: the European Society for Evolutionary Biology, the American Society of Naturalists, the Society for the Study of Evolution and the Society of Systematic Biologists. 2500 attendees are expected for this event.
It is organized by Ophélie Ronce, a researcher at the joint research unit ISEM and Yannis Michalakis, a researcher at the joint research unit MIVEGEC. Congress organized with the support of Agropolis International. The meeting is dedicated to the memory of Isabelle Oliveri, a researcher of Agropolis scientific community and former President of ESEB.
Following the traditional format of ESEB conferences, all contributed talks and posters will be submitted to specific symposia and selected on the basis of their abstract by symposium organizers.

Dead-line for early bird registration is postponed: 1st December 2017 for the international conference "Living Territories for a Sustainable Development", 22-24 January 2018, Montpellier (Le Corum)

The aim of this event organized by CIRAD with a range of partners (including Agropolis International) is to debate the role of rural territories and of their interaction with urban areas to the achievement of sustainable development, both locally and globally. Up to 250 participants are expected.

GEOBIA'18 is expected to gather scientists, professionals and users, from academia, industry, the public sector and government from all over the world.
GEOBIA'18 will continue to be a platform to present research and development on the traditional topics: theory/concept, methods/algorithm and OBIA applications. Special focus will cover today challenges as big data integration, open sources solution, cloud analyses, semantic and knowledge integration.
GEOBIA'18 will offer an opportunity for exchange and collaboration perspectives for various global Earth issues facing climate change impacts. Southern and Northern teams will find during this session the opportunity to present their work regarding worldwide challenges such as agro-system, forestry and natural resources monitoring, food security or crop yield modelling, risks management or urban applications. GEOBIA'18 is organized by several joint research units of Agropolis community: joint research unit ESPACE-DEV and TETIS with the partnership of the joint research unit CESBIO (located at Toulouse) and ONERA (French AeroSpace Research Centre).

Multi-platform International Summer School on Agent-Based Modelling & Simulation (MISS-ABMS) for Renewable Resources Management: the 2017 edition which was held from 4 to 15 September at Agropolis International, Montpellier/France hosted 20 participants from 9 countries across Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia

Each year, Agropolis International hosts the Multi-platform International Summer School on Agent-Based Modelling & Simulation (MISS-ABMS) for Renewable Resources Management. During this two-weeks course, working in small groups through participatory approaches, participants acquire the basic skills required for building their own agent-based models. The 2017 edition was held from 4 to 15 September and hosted 20 participants from 9 countries across Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia. This summer school is co-organised by CIRAD, IRSTEA and Agropolis International, in collaboration with CNRS and the Universities of Toulouse and Rouen.

On 12/09, on the occasion of COP 13 of the UNCCD (Ordos, China), the Initiative 4 for 1000 has received the "Policy of the Visionary Future" award from the World Future Council, which rewards the best policies dedicated to land restoration

This initiative aims to promote carbon storage in the soil to mitigate climate change, adapt to it and contribute to food security.
Launched two years ago by France, it involves more than 250 partner institutions and 130 member organizations or countries from all walks of life, including CGIAR, CIRAD, INRA and IRD.

Abstract submission until October 1st 2017 for ICPPMA - 1st International Congress for Plant Protection in Mediterranean Agroecosystems - July 16, 2018 to July 20, 2018 - Montpellier (Campus "La Gaillarde")

Context: Following objectives for restoration of disturbed agrosystems, it is becoming urgent to understand the contribution of invasives species within all degradation functions, and especially in the context of fast programmed elimination of pesticides. The CSFD/French Scientific Committee on Desertification will be present at COP13 of the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification) / 6 - 16 September 2017, Ordos, China

The next Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will take place in Ordos, China, from 6 to 16 September 2017.
Meetings of the subsidiary bodies (Committee on Science and Technology, Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention) will be held simultaneously, and many side events will also take place.
Mélanie Requier-Desjardins and Jean-Luc Chotte, two members of the CSFD, will be part of the French delegation, in order to provide scientific advice that will feed into the work of the negotiators, and to participate in various events.
Mélanie Requier-Desjardins will also be present at the COP as President of DeserNet International (DNI) which is organizing two side events.
The CSFD is hosted and managed by the Agropolis International association.

Save the date: ISESSAH 2018 (International Society for Economics and Social Sciences of Animal Health)/ InnovSur 2018 ('INNOVATION in Health Surveillance' International Forum) will be held in Montpellier (14-18 May, 2018)

The International Society for Economics and Social Sciences of Animal Health (ISESSAH) was established in 2017. ISESSAH aims to improve animal health and welfare policies, programmes and projects through more nuanced use of concepts and tools available in economics and social science disciplines. In the process it will provide opportunities for animal health professionals globally to achieve wider societal benefits from animals in society.
The ISESSAH 2018 conference will provide a forum to meet colleagues and leading thinkers in the field to enhance the use of economics in animal health education, research and policy making internationally.
The combination of ISESSAH 2018 and INNOVSUR event co-organised by the French Institute for Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD) will provide a specific opportunity for greater North-South interactions and emphasize on environmental and agricultural health economic issues.

This Forum was organized at its Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier with the aim to foster communication, dialogue and co-publications between the various partner institutions conducting scientific research in the field of rural development in Mediterranean countries. In this endeavor, the CIHEAM has been supported by a strong partnership with The Union for the Mediterranean through the regional project on Higher Education on Food Security and Rural Development. The Joint Research Unit “ UMR System” and the Western Europe Department of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (Francophone University Agency) also provided scientific and financial support to the event together with other partner institutions of the CIHEAM-IAMM in the Mediterranean area.

Save the date : International conference Eucalyptus 2018 ‘Managing Eucalyptus Plantations Under Global Changes’, 17-21/09/2018, Montpellier (Corum)

This conference is an opportunity for scientists and managers of forest plantations to present the recent advances in silviculture and genetics and to improve our understanding of the response of eucalypts to biotic and abiotic stresses. The ecosystem services influenced by eucalypt monocultures and mixed-species plantations with eucalypt trees will be addressed.
The conference will be organized in plenary sessions to promote interdisciplinary discussions between forest managers and researchers specialized in tree breeding, silviculture, forest pathology, as well as environmental and social issues. A pre-conference tour in southern France and northern Spain is in preparation to present the state of the art of the silviculture and breeding in European eucalypt plantations. Call for proposals until 7 September 2017 for the international conference ‘Living territories’ / 22-24 January 2018, Le Corum, Montpellier

CIRAD is working with a range of partners (including Agropolis International) to organize an international conference on "Living territories for a sustainable development". The aim of the event is to debate the role of rural territories and of their interactions with urban areas to the achievement of sustainable development, both locally and globally. Three specific objectives are identified, namely: 1)To highlight new scientific knowledge on territorial approaches to rural development ; 2)To showcase successful place-based innovations and projects including organisational and institutional reforms ; 3)To analyse and question the conditions of success for territorial development, especially within the context of the implementation of the SDGs Up to 250 participants are expected to attend, from 22 to 24 January 2018. The Conference will be composed of plenary and parallel sessions (mini symposia).

Just published: The declaration of non-State actors “Reducing land Degradation and Rehabilitating Degraded Land must Become a priority for the international community” /International summit  Desertif’Actions 2017 (27th-28th June 2017 - Strasbourg, France)

Desertif'actions was the non-State actors International Summit dedicated to land degradation and climate change. The meeting brought together over 300 stakeholders from over 50 countries in Strasbourg (France). NGO, scientists, local government, farmer organizations, private and public institutions… shared their concerns and built common positions on land degradation under a changing climate and its consequences in northern and southern countries. Organized by several institutions including CARI, member of Agropolis International.

Call for papers for the MISTRALS workshop on ‘Climate change impacts in the Mediterranean region’ (Agropolis International, Montpellier - 16-18 October 2017) open until July 14, 2017

The goal of this workshop, sponsored by the MISTRALS program (http://www.mistrals-home.org/), is to present recent research conducted on the impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean region and to propose common perspectives. This workshop aims to bring together a wide range of researchers and students, whose work is related to the impacts of climate change, to improve dialogue and interactions between climate modelers and the different scientific communities.

New ARIMNet2 2017 Joint Call dedicated to young researchers from the Mediterranean Area (open until 14 September 2017)

This call covers two topics: Topic 1: Promoting sustainable agriculture for socio-economic development; Topic 2: Valorising local products through food value chains improvement.The ARIMNet2 project (2014-2017), coordinated by INRA in partnership with Agropolis International, is an ERA-NET Action financed by the European Union under the Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration, aimed at enhancing the coordination of agricultural research in the Mediterranean area and strengthening the cooperation among stakeholders from the food and agriculture sector. It involves 24 partners (funding agencies and research organisations) from 15 Mediterranean countries providing funding and reinforcing research cooperation opportunities to address the huge societal challenges faced by the whole Mediterranean area and their implications for the agricultural sector ranging from food production, to water and natural resources use and rural development.

Just published: "Agrimonde-Terra: the narrow roads to global food security", Agrimonde-Terra foresight study, conducted by scientists from CIRAD and INRA with the support of global expert

How will agricultural land occupation change in the coming decades? As a result of which factors? How will the tensions between food security and climate change mitigation pan out? The Agrimonde-Terra foresight study, conducted by scientists from CIRAD and INRA with the support of global experts, set out to answer these questions via five land use and food security scenarios. The results of the Agrimonde-Terra foresight study, presented on 24 June in Paris, highlight the main levers for action, in particular the need for global land use governance that takes account not just of the agricultural and food sectors, but also other economic sectors. This should involve all the various stakeholders, and result in more diversified diets, new international trade regulations, more integrated crop and animal production systems and guaranteed access to land for a wide range of agricultural structures.

This conference is organized by CIRAD in partnership with AFD, Agropolis International, the CGIAR System Organization and CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM), the NEPAD, the GFAR, PNUD-ART, AgroParisTech, IAMM, INRA, the RIMISP, Wageningen University with the support from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Three specific objectives are identified for this conference, namely: To highlight new methods and scientific knowledge on territorial approaches to rural development, specifically in the Global South ; To showcase successful place based innovations and projects including organisational and institutional reforms ; To analyse and question the conditions of success for territorial development, especially within the context of the implementation of the SDGs. The debates will be devoted to the following themes: -Innovations, coordinations and regulations -Agri-chains and territorial development -Territorial development and globalization: think locally, act globally?.

The International Society for Economics and Social Sciences of Animal Health (ISESSAH) was established in 2017. ISESSAH aims to improve animal health and welfare policies, programmes and projects through more nuanced use of concepts and tools available in economics and social science disciplines. In the process it will provide opportunities for animal health professionals globally to achieve wider societal benefits from animals in society. The ISESSAH 2018 conference will provide a forum to meet colleagues and leading thinkers in the field to enhance the use of economics in animal health education, research and policy making internationally. The combination of ISESSAH 2018 and INNOVSUR event co-organised by the French Institute for Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD) will provide a specific opportunity for greater North-South interactions and emphasize on environmental and agricultural health economic issues.

GEOBIA'18 is expected to gather scientists, professionals and users, from academia, industry, the public sector and government from all over the world. The EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) is a biennial, pan-European, general science conference dedicated to scientific research and innovation. Each conference aims to deliver stimulating content and lively debate around the latest advancements and discoveries in the sciences, humanities and social sciences. EVOLUTION 2018, the 2nd Joint Congress on Evolutionary Biology gathering the European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB), the Society for the study of Evolution (SSE), the American Society of Naturalists (ASN) and the Society of Systematic Biology (SSB) will take place at Le Corum, in Montpellier (France), on August 19-22, 2018. The Joint Congresses take place every six years and bring together four of the world's largest academic societies in the field of evolutionary biology. The very first edition took place in Ottawa (Canada) in 2012. 2500 attendees are expected for this event. It is organized by Ophélie Ronce, a researcher at the joint research unit ISEM and Yannis Michalakis, a researcher at the joint research unit MIVEGEC. Congress organized with the support of Agropolis International. The meeting is dedicated to the memory of Isabelle Oliveri, a researcher of Agropolis scientific community and former President of ESEB.

The conference will be organized in plenary sessions to promote interdisciplinary discussions between forest managers and researchers specialized in tree breeding, silviculture, forest pathology, as well as environmental and social issues. A pre-conference tour in southern France and northern Spain is in preparation to present the state of the art of the silviculture and breeding in European eucalypt plantations.200-300 participants are expected from worldwide. This conference is organized by CIRAD and IUFRO. EUCALYPTUS 2018 is hosted and sponsored by CIRAD, INRA, IRD and Montpellier SupAgro.

Montpellier has been chosen to host the from 20 to 25 May 2019. Organization of the congress, which is held every five years and has never previously been held in Europe, will be led by CIRAD and INRA, with Agropolis International. More than a thousand participants from both temperate and tropical zones all over the world are expected.
