IWRA (International Water Resources Association) executive office is now settled in Montpellier

IWRA has strived to improve water management worldwide through dialogue, education, and research for over 35 years. Since its official formation in 1972, the organization has actively promoted the sustainable management of water resources around the globe. After the success of the XIII World Water Congress in Montpellier, IWRA has appointed Association VERSeau Développement to host the IWRA Executive Office from April 2010.

Call for participation : Photo Exhibition European food cultures: lives, flavours and horizons.

This call is addressed to professional and amateur photographers. Photos must be related to different aspects of the European food cultures. The exhibition opening will held in Parma (Italy) in occasion of the International EAAE-SYAL Seminar “Spatial Dynamics in Agrifood Systems: implication of sustainability and consumer welfare”, 27-30 October 2010.

Agropolis International becomes a member of the IASP - International Association of Science Parks

Agropolis International has just become a new associate member of the International Association of Science Parks (as an organisation closely related to the Science Parks activities). This network gathers 400 members throughout 70 countries (including 20 French organisations) in all fields and allows exchanges between professionals involved in the international science and technology parks.

6 top agricultural research and educational institutions launch Agreenium

In forming AGREENIUM, the National Consortium for agriculture, food, animal health and the environment, founding members INRA, CIRAD, AgroParisTech, Agrocampus Ouest, Montpellier SupAgro and ENV Toulouse have forged an organisation that is more than capable of facing the global challenges imposed by new requirements in these four fields. Several priority areas have already been singled out:Acting in the Mediterranean ; eighing in on France's approach to international agricultural research ;Establishing an international doctoral college.

CGIAR reform process: Montpellier city is candidate for hosting the consortium office

The consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) decided on a reform process to be put in place in 2010. This includes a change in the governance, with two pillars : the fund and the consortium of centres. The CGIAR is looking for a place to host the consortium office and France decided to propose Montpellier.

Food security in the Mediterranean: launching of SAMAQQ prospective study

Following Agropolis International Scientific and Technical committee’s initiative, a prospective study on Food security in the Mediterranean: qualitative and quantitative aspects - forecast 2030» has been launched to identify priorities for research, higher education and key partnerships on economical as well as cultural aspects. The study will especially focus on the consequences of global change on all the agricultural production systems of the Mediterranean basin.

French National Research Agency has selected Agropolis International to coordinate a foresight workshop, from mid-January 2010, on the theme «Which research and which partnerships for the Mediterranean ?»

EURAXESS Services Centre of Montpellier Languedoc Roussillon organises French courses

French courses (20h) from 25th January to 2nd April 2010 for PhD students, post-docs, researchers and professors hosted in higher education institutions and research centres in Montpellier and local area. 5 levels are available : beginner, elementary, intermediate, average, advanced. Courses take place from 5.30 to 7.30, at Institut Agronomique Méditerranéen, route de Mende, in Montpellier.

EU-PEARLS European project mid-term international seminar. October 14-15, 2010. Montpellier

The meeting is organized by the EU-PEARLS consortium, with Agropolis International's support, and aims to bring together researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers, interested in the development of alternative sources of natural rubber. The programme will cover topics including: alternative sources of natural rubber, germplasm collection, breeding, biochemistry, genetics of rubber biosynthesis, agronomy, processing, product development, by-products, socioeconomic aspects.

ESC2010: European Seismological Commission - 32nd General Assembly - September 06 -10, 2010 - Montpellier

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre will organize the ESC 32nd General Assembly on behalf of the European Seismological Commission. The ESC 2010 will focus on the Mediterranean dimension of seismology as well as on the study area at the interface between science and society, a field which includes risk management, sociology, educational initiatives but also the application of Citizen Science in seismology.

AGRO2010 - XI European Society of Agronomy international congress. August 29 - September 3, 2010. Montpellier

12th International Conference on Plant Pathogenic Bacteria. June 07-11, 2010. Palais des Congres, St Denis, La Réunion

Organized by the Plant Protection pole and the joint research unit PVBMT, this conference supported by Cirad, Inra, Ird and International Society for Plant Pathology will gather around 300 researchers. Special emphasis will be placed on emerging diseases, especially the amazing development of biotechnology and massive data flux from genomics as contributions to provide new clues to old problems: evolutionary history, genomic rearrangements and speciation.

EDEN International Conference: Emerging Diseases in a changing European eNvironment. May 10 - 12, 2010. Corum, Montpellier

From 2004 to 2010, the EDEN project has operated in 24 countries with 49 partner institutions and 80 scientific teams. This represents more than 200 research years of work on the effects of environmental changes on the emergence of vector-borne diseases in Europe. EDEN is organising an International Conference in Montpellier, 10-12 May 2010, to present its most exciting scientific results to the international community, and to stimulate debates with prominent world scientists in this critical area. Workshop "Taking stock of smallholder and community forestry: Where do we go from here?"

Date: March 24-26, 2010 Venue: Agropolis International, Montpellier CIFOR, the French research institute for development (IRD) and the French international research center for agricultural development (CIRAD) are organising an international conference on smallholder and community forest management in Montpellier, France, in March 2010. This workshop, bringing together researchers, policy makers and practitioners, is a forum for sharing and evaluating global patterns in forest resource use and management by smallholders and community groups to outline the current state of knowledge and identify a course for future research.

Proceedings of TDWG 2009

TDWG was formed to establish international collaboration among biological database projects. Other | Agropolis Fondation launches its 2010 Joint Call for Proposals (CfP) together with CAPES (Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education). This 2010 Joint CfP targets interdisciplinary and integrated approach to plants that address development issues concerning the North and the South.

New international competitiveness cluster on water

Other | A new international competitiveness cluster on water has been approved by the CIADT (Inter-ministerial Committee for Regional Planning and Development) on May 11th, 2010. It is based in Montpellier and focuses on water resources (location, rational management, decontamination, etc…).

New International Executive Masters in Water Utility Management

Other | AgroParisTech and Mines ParisTech have created within the framework of the “Water for All” Chair (ParisTech and Suez-Environment - Water for All Foundation) a new international executive masters titled "Water for All". The objective is to train leaders and reinforce the skills of executive managers in water and sanitation urban utilities in developing and transitional countries.
