The role of Agropolis International

In the frame of this partnership, Agropolis International Association is in charge of providing technical, scientific and logistical support for the feasibility of the project.

Agropolis International has signed a partnership agreement with INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria - Argentina) to set up in Montpellier (France) a LABINTEX/Virtual Laboratories of INTA Abroad, (23rd March, 2012, Buenos Aires)

The first coordinator of the LABINTEX has taken his functions by October 2012.

The aim of this agreement is to formalize the setting up in Montpellier of a LABINTEX/Virtual Laboratories of INTA Abroad, on the Embrapa’s European LABEX model, an original tool for international cooperation which was established at Agropolis International 10 years ago.

The partnership was initiated with INTA’s visit to Agropolis International in September 2006.

Another mission of an extended INTA delegation headed by its Chair Carlos Casamiquela took place in October 2011; they visited research units and met representatives of several institutions: Agropolis International, CIRAD, IRD, Montpellier SupAgro, Inra Montpellier, USDA and Embrapa’s LABEX Europe. The visit ended with further meetings in Paris, in particular with the executive directors of Inra and Cirad.

Further exchanges allowed to draw up the current partnership agreement between INTA and Agropolis International.

The setting up of this LABINTEX, supported by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) aims at reinforcing cooperation between Argentina and the French scientific community.

It will help develop French-Argentinian joint research projects (PCR) in the research fields related to agro-pastoralism, agro-food and/or agro-business, dealing with the following issues:

  • Emergent technologies (biotechnology, nanotechnology, ICTs, etc.) ;
  • Agro-food and agro-business technologies ;
  • Technologies for environmental conservation and sustainable management ;
  • Organizational innovations (rural development, family agriculture, extension).

In the frame of this partnership, Agropolis International Association is in charge of providing technical, scientific and logistical support for the feasibility of the project.
