The project "ARCUS 2006 - Ecology and sustainable development, Languedoc-Roussillon/China"
(2007-2010)
Following contacts with the Shanghai Municipality, the French Ministry of foreign and European affairs (MAEE) entrusted Agropolis International with a feasibility study of the conditions to build a scientific partnership about ecology and environment. This study resulted in a project submitted to the call for proposals ARCUS (Actions en Régions de Coopération Universitaire et Scientifique), which was approved late 2006.
The project is co-funded in equal shares by the MAEE and the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Government (total French budget: 500 000 euros). The aim of this project is to promote scientific exchanges between French and Chinese teams.
Agropolis International is the master-builder and is in charge of both financial and scientific management and coordination.

The activities include not only collaborative research and joint scientific publications, but also training for MSc or PhD students.
Between French and Chinese partners there are abundant exchanges of post-doctoral and senior researchers.
A 4th axis "TRANSVERSAL ACTIONS" includes coordination and management activities, exploratory missions, scientific seminars and a further support to trainee exchange.
Agenda
- a scientific seminar including all Chinese and French actions coordinators was held in Montpellier in December 2008 and allowed to present results and plan activities until the end of the project (December 2010)
- the final scientific seminar of the Arcus project will be held in October 2010 at the Auditorium of the French Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China.
