GCARD events and initiatives: Montpellier capital of the agricultural international research
Montpellier will welcome the first Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) from March 28 to 31, 2010.

Workshop "Taking stock of smallholder and community forestry: Where do we go from here?"
This workshop, organized by CIFOR,IRD and CIRAD on smallholder and community forest management will bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners. It is a forum for sharing and evaluating global patterns in forest resource use and management by smallholders and community groups to outline the current state of knowledge and identify a course for future research.

March 25-27 - Agropolis International
Young researcher seminar "Exploring Agricultural Research for the future: a dialogue between young researchers from the South and the North”
The French Initiative for International Agricultural Research (FI4IAR) in collaboration with Agropolis Fondation is organizing its first biennial seminar for young researchers working in developed and developing countries. It will provide an opportunity for doctoral and post doctoral students to dialogue and to establish links between young researchers from the North and the South

March 27 - Agropolis International Agrinatura general assembly
Agrinatura is «The European Alliance on Agricultural Knowledge for Development» encompassing 36 universities and research organizations from 19 European countries working with agricultural research, education, training and capacity strengthening for development. Agrinatura was born from the alliance between Natura association and Ecart.

GlobalHort Board of Directors
The Global Horticulture Initiative, GlobalHort will hold the 7th meeting of its Board of Directors on 27 March 2010 besides GCARD 1010 in Montpellier.
Launched in March 2010 at the same place under the aegis of the World Vegetable Center (AVRDC), of ISHS and CIRAD, and with the support of the government of Taiwan GlobalHort ambition is at facilitating effective networking among all actors of research in horticulture. Its mission aims at making value of innovative practices and knowledge in horticulture to improve human health, productivity and food security in sustainable and environment friendly approaches focusing on the poorest populations in the world.

March 26-27 – Montpellier Supagro
International workshop on “Challenges and innovative processes for capacity strengthening in agriculture for development”. This workshop aims to address global ARD challenges through capacity development and training support and to identify mechanisms for international collaborations in training and education.

Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize
Agropolis Fondation launches the Louis MALASSIS International Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food as a tribute to Prof. Louis Malassis (1918-2007), a highly esteemed French educator, agronomist and agro-economist. The Prize will be awarded for the first time in 2010 during the GCARD.

Scientific visits on Agropolis Campuses
Complementary to GCARD, a special day on April 1rst will be dedicated to showcase the activities of the Agropolis scientific community. One of the best kept secrets in global ARD is that Montpellier hosts the world’s greatest concentration of skills and expertises in fields related to agriculture, food, biodiversity, environment and rural societies, with ca. 2,300 scientists focusing on the development of the Mediterranean and tropical regions.
